Day 5 - It's Pushkar!

OK - so the guide book sold it very well.

It is where Brahma first came to earth and it is one of the foremost Hindu pilgrimage places (Think Glastonbury by a reservoir) and the hotel is exquisitely positioned on the lake.

Anticipating an air of quiet, monastic contemplation, pilgrims walking around in reverential prayer, I was left with my hopes in pieces.

Two strong things stick out....

The aroma - there is a very strong constant aroma certainly not from the house of Coco Chanel - think Eau de urine avec dust avec cow dung avec incense .....

The noise - it appears to be the Hindu custom to keep Brahma - the creator - constantly awake - bang any drum, play (badly) any clarinet or trumpet you can get your hands on - any thing to keep the creator awake, creating and therefore (presumably) happy.......

God help me in Varanasi.

All that said - part of Ghandl is scattered here, we have the good folk of Birmingham to thank for the restoration of the Brahma Ghats (steps) along the lakeside and you'll be pleased to know I've been blessed by a Hindu priest and have sent a Hindu offering to Brahma in the lake.

I'll leave that thought as to what was offered to your imagination.

Pics next time as internet sporadic here.

Peace and love to you. xx
